Fisher Price Nativity

The boys were quietly playing in the living room and when I investigated I discovered they were playing with the Fisher Price Nativity. I guess I need to tell the boys to pay closer attention in Sunday School as I'm pretty certain that Joseph and Mary traveled to Bethlehem by donkey, not by bus. Apparently the bus transports livestock as well. I don't recall smiling that much when ever I traveled by bus.
Buddy took note of how much fun the boys were having with the Nativity and decided to make a visit. Look out Buddy! You are well within Eric's reach. After all, look what happened to Superman.

Our Christmas Tree

Our tree looks a little odd this year. Only a few non-fragile ornaments remain on the bottom third of the branches. Eric wonders why?

Just look at that grin. Instead of olives on those fingers, he has pulled the caps and hangers off the ornament balls. Without the hangers, they have a little trouble staying on the tree.
Buddy watch: Buddy is still staying up high out of reach. UL, how long does it take for you to find him in this picture?

Advent Calendar

The countdown to Christmas continues. In addition to the candy calendars, we also have an advent calendar that Karen make for us. So far Eric has been really good not to take down what has been put on the calendar. Nicholas and Carter enjoy taking turns putting an item on each day.
Buddy update: High up on the shelf.

Happy 29th Birthday (again)

Yesterday was my birthday and it was a great day. I appreciate all the calls and Happy Birthday Wishes I received from everyone. The morning was spent with Aaron cooking (gasp) my favorite breakfast, French Toast. It is probably the only breakfast food that the whole family will eat. After breakfast I opened up my cards and presents from Aaron and the boys. Then it was time to get things in gear to get ready for church. The 1:30PM to 4:30 PM time slot for church makes for a busy day. After church we went to my parents for dinner and ice cream cake.
Buddy update: Buddy was found peeking out of the mixer. He had better move before Aaron makes his next batch of chocolate chip cookies. Buddy is happy to report that his sources in California are saying that UL is being very good this year.

Buddy update

Buddy the Elf has been working his way around our home keeping a sharp eye on the boys' activities. Buddy has avoided the low ground this season. I'm pretty sure he wants to stay out of the reach of "the destoyer". Here we found him hanging from the dining room light fixture.

I bought a new Little People Nativity Set along with the Wise Men set. Eric and Carter enjoyed playing together. It was funny to listen to Eric play with the donkey drawn cart. I never knew that a donkey pulling a cart sounded the same as a running car. Vroom. Carter got the Little People organized into groups (animals over here, shepherds there, wise men over by the tents). It was fun to watch them play.

The Giving Tree

We try to teach the boys that it is better to give than receive. Not an easy task for boys with long Christmas lists. The Ward has set up a "Giving Tree". Each ornament has a gift certificate request. We get to keep the ornament and turn in the gift card to the Bishop for distribution to those in need. Nicholas liked it so much that he asked if we could give more than one certificate. Why not?

Candy Calendar

Last night I finally was able to finish the boys' candy calendar. The boys picked Hershey's Candy Cane Kisses, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and Butterfinger minis. Several times a day Eric will come up to me and say, "Mommy, Mommy, Mommy. Please candy!". When he asks so politely how can I say no? Nicholas says, "Hi and Happy Almost Merry Christmas!" Carter and Eric say, "Hi" too.

Service and Missionary Work

On Wednesday the boys got out of school early (teacher in-service). The Ward Primary had an activity in the afternoon where the kids got together to give service to our missionaries. The kids brought wrapped gifts for the missionaries serving in our Ward boundary. There were various Christmas arts and craft activities where the kids made ornaments for a small Christmas tree. It was fun to share some gifts and crafts with the young men that are serving away from home during the holidays.

Here is Nicholas pointing out his bright red candy cane ornament. Unfortunately Carter was being "camera shy" and avoided being in any of the pictures. I thought this was a neat game idea. "Santa" was written on cards in various languages then the kids were to associate the cards with the appropriate country. Nicholas got it right!!! Eric has taken a liking to playing the piano. I attempted several times to keep him from playing a tune, distracting the other children. Finally I gave up and took his picture. Should I tell him that neither one of his parents has a lick of musical talent?

Here are the missionaries enjoying some of the presents the kids brought for them. It is neat to see the sincere smiles on the faces of these young men. The tree was decorated with the ornaments the children had made earlier.

Christmas books

Did you know that I love to read Christmas stories? Well, I do and it probably explains why we have so many Christmas books. Every year I would buy one, two or three :) new books to add to our collection. The boys enjoy being read to nightly. This is a new book. It's about the Twelve Days of Christmas and you have to find and count the objects for each day. It is a fun book that is helping teach the younger boys counting.
Here is another new book and it happens to be one of Carter's favorites. I think we read this one ten times already (it is only the third day I've had it out). It is a nice story about a mouse named Mortimer who dislikes his mouse hole and wants a new home. He see a nativity scene and thinks it will be a nice home for him once he gets rid of the current occupants. He then learns about what the manger is and who it belongs to...the baby Jesus. Nicholas used is own money and bought the book Christmas Tree at the school book fair yesterday. He said he bought it for our family to read. Isn't he sweet! The book is about using your imagination and thinking what it would be to become a Christmas Tree.

My Cutie Pooties!

Nicholas received his Bear rank last month in Cub Scouts! We're so proud of him.

Here is Carter waiting anxiously for his brother to come home from school. He needs a video game partner as Mom really isn't "into it". Umm...Eric "Zoolander" has been battling the hair flu. We're expecting a full recovery. As if the hair wasn't enough to laugh about, I just realized that he is brushing his teeth with Carter's toothbrush.

Defender of the galaxy by day, crimefighter by night. It is Buzz-man....or is it Bat-buzz? Either way, it is just too cute.

Cousin Emily

Emily came by a couple of times for a visit. She enjoys playing with the boys. Play-doh is always good for hours of entertainment. Even Aaron gets in on the action.
Emily..."And I've got this new sister. She is small and isn't too much fun to play with. I wonder when she'll start running around and talking. All she does is just lay around."

Eric..."Really? Is that what having a sister is like?"
We really enjoyed spending the day together.

Buddy the Elf

The boys look forward to the first day of December as that is when Buddy makes his annual visit. His primary duty is to check on the boys to see if they are being naughty or nice and report back to Santa on Christmas Eve.
Carter is using a tape measure to see how tall the tree will be.
Nicholas is obviously his father's son. On Dasher, on Dancer, on Prancer...on Grumpy?
I just love the look of wonder and excitement in the boys' eyes.

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween everyone!!! Carter dressed up as the Clone Trooper Captain Rex. Nicholas was a very handsome cowboy. Eric was his favorite character Buzz Lightyear. Eric wasn't quite in the Halloween mood as he had just woken up from his nap. Here is Clone Trooper Carter standing at attention. Just look at that form!
Sheriff Nicholas displaying his trusty six-shooter. Go get'em cowboy!
Eric was an adorable Buzz. He kept pushing the laser button on the left sleeve of his outfit.
Trunk or Treat was fun. The boys had an enjoyable evening.

Nicholas' Short Film Clone Troopers

Narrated by Nicholas and Carter

Monday, October 20, 2008

I've update my blog with FOUR posting. Later this week I will post Nick's latest short film.

Pumpkin Patch

Saturday morning we went to Nick's school to support the fourth graders. We ate pancakes and watched the teachers play volleyball with the Dad's. After eating yummy pancakes we headed out to Flower Mound. The weather was so nice and the pumpkin patch was busy. They had hay rides, bounce houses, train ride, and mazes.

I like this picture.

Eric was thrilled to be near his current favorite cartoon character Buzz Lightyear!
Look the lion got my hand. Funny kid.
Say cheese!

The Backyardigans is another favorite for Eric.
Hmmm, which one do I want?
Okay, I'm happy. I got what I wanted.
That big bag of kettle popcorn lasted 2 days. It was so yummy! Aaron, Carter, Eric and I did help Nick polish off that popcorn. On the way home we grabbed some lunch and went to the park. It is one of our favorite.

Now it's time to go home and relax. Aaron later went outside to mow the lawn and the kids played on their scooter. Eric had his lawn mower and was following right behind Aaron. I did some cleaning inside of my car. We then ordered pizza for dinner and watched Young Frankenstein together as a family. I had forgotten how funny that movie was.
